The kids and I spent the weekend in Panaca with Shane's family. I wanted to go up there because they were having a baby shower for our niece on Friday night, but we ended up staying the rest of the weekend for the 24th celebration. Unfortunately, Shane had to work, so he wasn't able to make it with us.
The celebration began Saturday morning at 6am with their annual dynamite alarm clock (fun.....NOT!). We then ate a big breakfast up at the church and let the kids play on the playground. Every year they do races, but the kids weren't too interested in them......until the races started and they realized they were handing out money to all the participants. They had regular running races, potato sack races and wheelbarrow races. At the end of each race they would reward everyone with dimes or quarters. I even got a quarter in the women's (over 20) race. I felt stupid because halfway through the race, my knees buckled and I almost biffed it.
Evan is the red wheelbarrow being pushed by his cousin, Preston
and Denver is also in red pushing his cousin, Hunter.
Alisha in the potato sack race.
I also helped Grant do a few of the races, he was a little confused, but he liked holding his money that he won. Each of the kids almost earned enough money in the races to buy themselves a snow cone, so I covered the difference.
Later in the afternoon we attended the parade. It was a small parade, but we enjoyed it because they threw a lot of candy!!
We also enjoyed a yummy dinner at the church after the parade.

I totally love how they handed out money! Sounds like fun!
When I was a kids we got money during relay races at our family reunions. Much better than candy! We were just in Panaca the end of June. I'm ready to go back again! Glad you guys had fun!
Sounds fun! (I thought you were planning on going to NewCastle, though).
I honestly don't think I've ever been to Panaca.... looks like I'm missing out!
